This is an umbrella thread looking at the non-Whoniverse projects which has the involvement of Whoniverse contributors as well as looking at areas that of interest to Whoniverse fans.
It is modeled on the Beyond The TARDIS articles compiled by Dominic May in Doctor Who Magazine.

Burn Gorman made his last appearance in Revenge in 2.18 Masquerade. Somewhat ironically when it was shown on 7 on Monday May 27 it was on the same time that Torchwood, which of course includes Gorman as a regular cast member, made its debut on 11. So in terms of the aforementioned broadcasts of Gorman’s Revenge swansong and the first Torchwood episode Everything Changes which introduced him as Owen, Gorman went through the revolving door from Revenge to Torchwood. Just for fun I checked whether Gorman had scenes in the Torchwood & Revenge episodes simultaneously on the respective channels and there was one instance of it. In the first Torchwood episode it occur when Owen was in the bathroom and then leaving it taking a certain aftershave with him and it was shown on 11 when in the Revenge episode on 7 he as his character Trask was in his car when he was held at gunpoint. Certainly contrasting moments from the respective episodes.

At The Movies last night had David Stratton and Margaret Pomerantz at Cannes in which they talked about the films they saw there including the new version of The Great Gatsby and it shows clips featuring Carey Mulligan but unfortunately she was not among the cast members who got interviewed about it in the programme.

Just finished seeing the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes A Test of Strength & A Necessary Bond which featured the voice of Tenth Doctor David Tennant.
In these two episodes Tennant voiced Huyang who was the android that designed the lightsabers. The Doctor designing lightsabers. Now that’s quite a thought.

A couple of months ago I thought of Torchwood being in a coma due to the fact that it hasn’t been officially been cancelled nor has there been any new episodes since the end of Miracle Day in 2011. Somewhat ironically found out shortly afterwards that Lauren Ambrose was in a 2012 mini-series called Coma: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coma_(U.S._miniseries)I recently finished watching this mini-series and had Lauren Ambrose headlining it and playing a medical student. In Miracle Day she had played publicist Jilly Kitzinger and the goodness of my heart would like to think that the Lauren Ambrose character in Coma is what became of Jilly after Miracle Day. Her witnessing of what impact the Miracle had on the health system was perhaps what influenced her to study medicine and become a member of the medical profession. Coma was based on a novel by Robin Cook and it was previously adapted as a 1978 film starring Geneviève Bujold as the character that Lauren Ambrose played in the mini-series. As part of the Whoniverse-Star Trek game, Genevieve Bujold was originally Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager but ultimately dropped out and replaced by Kate Mulgrew. So given who played the lead character in the movie and mini-series versions of Coma evokes the thought of Kathryn Janeway regenerating into Jilly Kitzinger. Incidentally also in the Coma mini-series cast was Brian J Smith who had been a regular cast member in Stargate Universe, a series not unlike Star Trek: Voyager.

Karen Gillan has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. The casting of this movie is a case of Doctor Who meets Star Trek as it also features Zoe Saldana (Uhura in the recent Star Trek movies). For Karen Gillan she has been given a major role in this Hollywood movie as she will be playing the lead female villain. www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/doctor-who-star-joins-marvels-561293

Two weeks after ABC1 showed The Name of the Doctor on Sunday May 19, elsewhere on the ABC on ABC3 it showed the similarly titled Degrassi two-parter You Don’t Know My Name on Sunday June 2.
With the name of The Name of the Doctor sparking protest from Doctor Who fans who do not want to know the Doctor’s name, I am guessing the aforementioned Degrassi story title would have been more to their liking as a Doctor Who episode title.

Saw Michael Jayston (the Valeyard aka the Doctor) in the historical drama film Cromwell (1970) about the life of Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector of Britain in between the abolition (with the execution of Charles I) and the restoration (with the crowning of Charles II) of the monarchy.
In Cromwell, Jayston played Henry Ireton, Cromwell’s son-in-law.
Cromwell also featured Doctor Who guest stars Timothy Dalton, Nigel Stock, Stratford Johns, Ian McCulloch and Harry Fielder while deleted scenes had featured Peter Bennett, Tony Caunter and George A Cooper. Prior to Dalton appearing as Rassilon in the David Tennant formal swansong The End of Time, he was of course known for playing James Bond in two movies and rather interestingly Cromwell featured two actors who had key roles in the pre-Dalton Bond films and they were Charles Gray and Geoffrey Keen. Gray had appeared in two Connery Bond films including playing the villain Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever. Keen played British Defence Secretary Sir Frederick Gray in six Bonds, the first five starring Roger Moore as Bond and his last, perhaps coincidentally, in Dalton’s Bond debut The Living Daylights.
Other non-Who cast members of Cromwell includes its two lead actors Richard Harris as Cromwell and Alec Guinness as Charles I. The former in one of his last roles played Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies and the latter became the first actor to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe. As well as becoming the ruler of Britain after Charles’ death, Cromwell was also a signatory to Charles’ execution. This rather evokes the image of Obi-Wan Kenobi being executed by Dumbledore.

The Sydney Sunday Telegraph included an article on Queen Elizabeth officially opening the new headquarters of the BBC. Although the writer of the article made no mention of Doctor Who in it, the accompanying picture did have the TARDIS with the Queen and some of the BBC personnel standing in front of it. As I know that she herself was at this event, Jenna-Louise Coleman seems to be in the picture as well but her face has been blocked by the Queen wearing her hat.

Just finished seeing the NCIS episode Gone which guest starred Alex Kingston as Miranda Pennebaker. As one can see this character shares the same initials with Melody Pond the birth name of Alex Kingston’s Doctor Who character River Song. The fact that Miranda Pennebaker has the same initials with Melody Pond cannot be a coincidence since Alex Kingston said in an interview with Data Extract that the writers and showrunners of NCIS are Doctor Who fans.
